🇩🇿 This months #APSVibecheck Podcast episode features Kamel Haddar, CEO and Founder of temtem ONE, the 1st digital gift card solution for B2C and B2B in Algeria – a wide and curated offer of products and services for Diaspora and Businesses alongside a fintech offer of digital payment through QR codes and cashback programs.

📌 Kamel Haddar is a founder, investor and ecosystem leader. He’s the CEO of temtem one, an app targeted at Alegrians in the diaspora. By Haddar’s admission, temtem one was set up after his initial service, ride-hailing, struggled during the pandemic. “We saw an opportunity in connecting Algerians in the diaspora to their families,” Haddar shared. 🔌

Founded three years ago, the temtem one app lets Algerians abroad shop for family members and even send them money. Sending money back home is still a problem startups are solving for given how expensive and complicated the legacy solutions are.

📌 Haddar isn’t shy to speak about temtem one’s super app ambitions. The idea of super apps has often been talked about in SubSaharan Africa, but execution remains challenging. One key lever in building a super app is raising a lot of money at the beginning. At a time when we’re talking about a funding winter, that may be a tall order. Without a warchest, Haddar’s strategy is to “focus on profitable customers."

There are three key takeaways from this episode of the podcast: understanding how a founder thinks of the Algerian market, how to build for a mix of B2B and B2C customers and understanding how to balance being an investor, cofounder and a mentor.

That's it for now. See you next month! — Olumuyiwa
